DC 37 is New York City’s largest public-sector union, with 62 locals representing 150,000 municipal workers. It is also one of the three founding unions that collaborated in 1984 to establish what eventually became the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. The goal of this collaboration is twofold: to expand higher educational opportunities for union members and to develop the next generations of union members. Learn more now!

About Our Programs

TUITION SUPPORT

Thanks to generous support from DC 37, the DC 37 Education Fund, and the AFSCME members may be eligible for tuition support in a number of ways:

  1. Full tuition for undergraduate and graduate courses in Labor Studies;
  2. Tuition reimbursementfor up to $915 per calendar in any course of study;
  3. Lillian Roberts Awards of up to $1,250/year for members or children of members who have demonstrated a commitment to gender equality and racial justice

School of Labor and Urban Studies Featured in PEP Talk

Where else but in New York City could you expect a college graduation ceremony to open with the singing of the historic labor song “Solidarity Forever,” along with the country’s national anthem?

That occurred at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, which recently celebrated the graduation of the new public university’s first graduating class. Nearly 30 DC 37 members were among the proud graduates.
