LEAP-to-Teacher (LTT) Program

Worker Education at CUNY SLU offers the LEAP-to-Teacher (LTT) program in collaboration with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT). LTT’s unique set of support services is designed for paraprofessionals working in New York City public schools who wish to earn their associate, bachelor’s, and/or master’s degrees in any field of study, including teaching. This program is offered at BMCC, Brooklyn College, College of Staten Island (CSI), Lehman College, and Queens College.

CUNY DAYS

The Murphy Institute for Worker Education at CUNY SLU provides free services through our CUNY Days: Adult College Access Program for union members who are interested in continuing their education but are feeling confused or unsure about the college selection and application process. Offerings include:

  • CUNY Pre-Admissions Advisement – One-to-one appointments focused on various academic pathways at CUNY that lead toward participants’ career goals. Sessions may include application assistance, exploration of labor market data, guidance on accessing union tuition benefits and financial aid, and more.   • Free College Prep in Math & English Classes in Elementary Algebra and Reading/Writing offered for adults 21 or older with a high school diploma or equivalency. Hosted in collaboration with CWE.   • Information Sessions and/or Workshops – Sessions providing your membership with a taste of college, using a model that incorporates student speakers and an informative presentation on SLU’s and CUNY’s offerings, application requirements, and more. Workshops focus on the process of returning to college, including “Applying to CUNY,” “Transferring to CUNY,” and “Financing Your CUNY Education.”
  • Careers via CUNY – A specific set of workshops focused on academic pathways at CUNY that lead to careers in growing industries across NYC.
  • Information Sessions for Staff – Sessions providing your staff with information about CUNY in an effort to better support their college advisement endeavors, and/or for their own educational pursuits.
