Established in 2018, the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) is the 25th and newest
school within The City University of New York system. SLU’s mission is threefold: to prepare the next generation
of labor and community leaders; help workers achieve greater economic mobility and security through higher
education; and promote civic engagement and public discourse—all with a focus on public service and social
justice. Offering one of the few interdisciplinary curriculums in labor and urban studies in the nation, SLU
awards undergraduate and graduate degrees in those fields, as well as credit-bearing certificates. Programs are
designed to meet the needs of both working adults and traditional-age college students.
