Sarah Watson is the Director of the Joseph S. Murphy Institute. Prior to joining SLU in 2023, she served in a leadership position at the Hunter College Art Galleries (2012–2023) and was also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Art and Art History. Watson’s research focuses on the politics of labor within the cultural sector and the role and responsibilities of cultural institutions. She is co-editor with Bridget R. Cooks of the publication “The Black Index” and her writing has appeared in the Brooklyn Rail, among several other outlets. In 2022, Watson served on the MTA Art and Design Artist Selection Panel for the 68th Street and Lexington Ave station. She has an MA in Urban Studies from CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, an MA in Art History from Hunter College, and a BFA in Art Photography from Syracuse University.
