SLU’s Murphy Institute offers educational opportunities for union members and serves as an academic resource on issues of concern to workers and poor and working-class communities.

Worker Education at the Murphy Institute collaborates with unions, employers, government agencies, and other CUNY units to provide community-based college access services; courses and degree programs of all types, both in the liberal arts and technical fields; and ongoing support services for students at SLU and students at our partner CUNY schools: Queens College, Brooklyn College, Lehman College and the College of Staten Island.

The Murphy Institute sponsors public forums and national conferences; conducts research; publishes New Labor Forum, a nationally acclaimed journal; offers leadership development programs to encourage greater civic participation; and organizes a number of specialized local, national, and international  initiatives.
