Partnership Programs are developed through linkages between CUNY SLU and unions or other organizations. Students enrolled in these programs may qualify for free or reduced cost tuition.
In partnership with Brooklyn Communities Collaborative (BCC), CUNY SLU offers eligible students living in Brooklyn (“Fellows”) a four- course Advanced Certificate in Workplace Democracy and Community Ownership (WDCO). BCC will cover the cost of tuition and fees for each fellow enrolled in WDCO.
Credible Messenger Mentoring is a program where youths in the juvenile justice system are mentored by individuals from similar backgrounds, especially those who were themselves system-involved, to help the youths transform their lives. The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies (SLU) partners with the Department of Probation’s Credible Messenger Justice Center to enroll eligible Credible Messengers in the Community Leadership Certificate Program (undergraduate or graduate level). For participants in this program, the application fee is waived, and tuition is paid by the Credible Messenger Justice Center.
The CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, partnered with District Council 37’s Education Fund, offers Certificate in Labor Relations to DC37 members interested in learning more about the labor movement, labor relations, and unionism. DC37 sponsors 4-courses for members enrolled in the following programs:
- Certificate in Labor Relations
- BA in Urban Studies, Labor Relations Track (any 4-courses in Labor Studies)
- Advanced Certificate in Labor Relations
- MA Labor Studies
To receive the tuition benefit, all prospective DC37 students must apply to and receive confirmation from the DC37 Ed Fund prior to submitting their CUNY application. Please fill out the application on the DC37 Ed Fund website by clicking here.

The Resident Leadership Academy Program is a partnership between the Fund for Public Housing, New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) and the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies. It is designed to provide training and build leadership skills for residents interested in taking a more active role in civic life within their development and community. The program’s objective is to foster transferable leadership skills that residents can use across their communities and provide a pathway to higher education.
The Community Leadership Certificate is a tuition-free* program for eligible “Resident Leaders”

In partnership with the Transport Workers Union Local 100/New York City Transit Authority Training and Upgrading Fund, CUNY SLU offers two courses tuition free:
- Development of Mass Transit in New York City
- Worker Health and Safety.

However, these funds may be considered taxable income based on individual circumstances. CUNY cannot provide tax advice.
